Maxilam partners with leading manufacturers throughout the Transportation Industry, where we deliver high-performance adhesive solutions that extend vehicle life and structural integrity. Our unique Sabre adhesive technology allows manufacturers to increase production, reduce build time, eliminate warranty issues and deliver greater weight efficiency. Shaping the future of the 21st century, Maxilam’s adhesives helps to manufacture thousands of RV’S, Buses and commercial vehicles each year.
A major RV manufacturer was having significant challenges with adhesive compatibility and performance on the substrates used in the vehicle bonding. Due to standard RV construction methods the manufacturer was using a range of plastics and composite materials. The adhesive being used had a very narrow adhesion range and low UV stability and so this was leading to water ingress and the plastics aging prematurely. This was resulting extensive warranty claims, reworking and shortened vehicle life.
The variations of plastics being used included ABS, ASA, PMMA etc., all with differing levels of surface energy and flexibility, creating a challenging bonding environment. The water ingress and warranty claims were results of adhesive incompatibility and strength. As the Australasian climate experiences an extremely high-level of global UV exposure, this means the protection of the vehicle’s quality and longevity is challenging. The inability of the adhesive being used to withstand the UV exposure was causing it to breakdown throughout the vehicle’s life.
The Sabre Bond SMP50 adhesive was specially formulated and developed to provide the manufacturer with primerless adhesion to a wide spectrum of plastics. Which includes those with low surface energies which previously presented as challenging to bond. Formulated with MS Polymer technology and incorporating a unique ‘stay-white’ chemistry meant the manufacturer had excellent UV protection and prevention of the sealant yellowing and breaking down.
A thorough implementation of the Sabre Bond SMP50 adhesive throughout the production meant that the OEM was able to achieve satisfactory adhesion and eliminate adhesive related water ingress. Resulting in reducing warranty claims and rework expenses that the manufacturer had been incurring each year. The ‘Stay-white’ chemistry mean that the vehicle aesthetics were improved as well as the long-term vehicle durability.
The Bus & Coach industry is experiencing a period of significant disruption and innovation as global demand increases. Manufacturers are demanding higher-performance adhesives that will extend the life and durability of vehicles, whilst also delivering greater weight and fuel efficiency.
As the Recreational Vehicle Industry grows, the construction methods have evolved. The industry is transitioning towards vehicles that are lightweight, more durable, and efficient. Maxilam adhesives enable these lighter construction methods whilst also improving the structural integrity and durability of the vehicles against UV exposure.
Commercial Vehicles have evolved alongside the global increase for energy and efficient construction. Commercial vehicle manufacturers are striving to utilize specialist adhesive bonding technology to increase the structural integrity, deliver weight reduction, and enable greater fuel efficiency.
